Facilities

Wichita High School East's theatre department is based in the auditorium located in what was once Roosevelt Junior High. Commonly called the "West Auditorium," it seats over 500 and has been updated to serve as a theatrical space. The original stage was expanded by nearly 400 square feet in 1996 making possible larger scale musicals such as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Chess . The lighting system is contolled by an NSI Melange Memory Controller, fully computerized and capable of operating 128 separate lighting circuits.

The Underground, our lab theater, is located directly under the Roosevelt Auditorium. New for the 2004-2005 season, it seats about 75 people and is perfect for recitals, monologues, and smaller productions.

The drama room is next to The Underground. It has class space that converts to 32 make-up stations, two changing rooms, an extensive theatre library, prop storage, and much more.

Connected by a hallway you will find our costume shop. Our inventory has grown tremendously.

The original East Auditorium is located in the center of the main building. It seats over 2200. It is used for concerts and large scale productions. It has seen recent productions of Into the Woods, Bye Bye Birdie, Once Upon a Mattress, Footloose, Fiddler on the Roof and our original Joan of Arc.

Adjacent to the East auditorium is a dressing room and two storage rooms.

In addition to these facilities, we were also fortunate to have our vocal music room designed to accomodate theatre productions.
