Wichita High School East was completed in 1924.
The performing arts facilities are undergoing major renovation. This page will be updated summer 2012.
What we do have:
Wichita High School East's theatre department is based in the auditorium located in what was once Roosevelt Junior High. Commonly called the "West Auditorium," it seats over 500 and has been modified to serve as a theatrical space. A temporary platform system was added in 1996 making possible larger sets . The lighting system is controlled by an NSI Melange Memory Controller.
The Underground, our lab theater, is located directly under the Roosevelt Auditorium. It seats about 75 people and is used for recitals, monologues, and smaller productions.
The drama room is next to The Underground. It has class space that converts to make-up stations, an extensive theatre library, and prop storage.
Connected by a hallway you will find our costume shop.
The original East Auditorium is located in the center of the main building. It seats 1610. It is used for concerts and large scale productions. It has seen recent productions of Ragtime, Into the Woods, and Once Upon a Mattress.
Adjacent to the East auditorium is a dressing room and two storage rooms.
